What is that?
Here are definitions of terms that you might not be familiar with, and that's OK. Hearing people talk about anti-oxidants, free radicals and electrolytes can be intimidating because we hear those words all the time and other people assume we know what they mean, but what if we don't? Well, we've got you! Here's a list of definitions to help clarify some of the things were talking about because knowledge is POWER!
Definitions
Antioxidants
Molecules that can prevent or slow damage to cells caused by free radicals. Antioxidants "donate" an electron (or charge) to free radicals which in turn disarms them so they cannot harm other cells.
Common antioxidants: Vitamin C, Glutathione, Alpha-lipoic acid, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Coenzyme Q10, Selenium, Zinc
Free Radicals
Electrolytes
Unstable molecules produced naturally by Metabolic processes in the body and environment
Electrolytes are a mineral that carry a positive or negative charge. They are critical in maintaining fluid balance, nerve impulse transmission, muscle contractions, and metabolic/enzymatic reactions in the body.
Common Electrolytes: Sodium (Na+), Potassium (K+), Calcium (Ca2+), Magnesium (Mg2+), Chloride (Cl-), Bicarbonate (HCO3-), Sulfate (SO2-4), Phosphate (PO3-).
Vitamins
Essential to human life, numerous roles. Our body does not make a sufficient quantity so we must obtain through our diet. Key jobs are energy production, metabolism, immune function, cellular communication, growth, and development.
Common Vitamins in our drips: B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacin), B5 (Pantothenic Acid), B6 (Pyridoxine), B7 (Biotin), B9 (Folate), B12 (Cobalamin), Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid).
Minerals
All metals are minerals but what we use in our drips are trace minerals. These are metals needed by the body in small amounts for vital functions:
Common minerals in our drips: Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu), Manganese (Mn), Chromium (Cr) and Selenium (Se).
Amino- Acids
Amino- Acids are the building blocks of life. If you put 2 to 50 amino acids together, you get a peptide. If you put 50 to 2000 amino acids together, you get a protein. The largest known protein is 38,800 amino acids!
Amino-acids are responsible for protein synthesis, energy production, neurotransmitter production and regulation, immune system function, digestive health, wound healing, tissue repair, detoxification, nutrient absorption, enzyme production, and hormone production
Cobalamin
B12- an essential vitamin for human life. The most common form in the U.S. is Cyanocobalamin. This is a synthetic form of B12 that is made with CYANIDE.
Avoid Cyanocobalamin.
Instead, find products that use Methylcobalamin or Hydroxycobalamin. This is still B12 but is in a form that the body is more easily able to utilize and is not made with cyanide.
Folate
B9- an essential vitamin for human life. The most common form in the U.S. is Folic Acid. Folic Acid is a man-made, synthetic, form of B9.
Approximately 50% of the population has a gene mutation (MTHFR), that inhibits or impairs the body's ability to turn folic acid into its usable form methylfolate. All enriched or fortified grain products in the U.S. contain Folic acid. Symptoms of the MTHFR gene mutation can be anxiety, anxiousness, depression, panic Attacks, gut issues, sleep, racing mind and blood pressure problems.
Avoid products with Folic Acid.
FOLATE is 100% necessary for your body. So, Instead find products that use Methylfolate. This is still B9 but is in a form that the body is more easily able to utilize.
Try to purchase organic grain products (breads, pastas, crackers, etc). Read lables to ensure it does not say "enriched" flour. This means 'contains folic acid'.
